ACE FREHLEY SPEAKS OUT: Benefit and Solo Lp plans

from: Mtv.com

When the stalwart rock warriors of Kiss are absent from the stage, fans often hear about Gene Simmons' money-making merchandising projects or Paul Stanley's acting ventures, but guitarist A
ce Frehley stays pretty busy also.

On November 28 he'll join forces with Twisted Sister, Sebastian Bach, Overkill and Anthrax at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom for New York Steel, a benefit concert for victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The event was organized by Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French, who hopes the show will bring in $100,000. Originally, Frehley wanted to schedule his own benefit concert, but instead he decided to step onboard the Hammerstein roster.

"I'm a native New Yorker. I was born 10 blocks from Yankee Stadium," Frehley said Tuesday. "So I'm eager to do anything I can to help our city rebuild from this horrible disaster."

As excited as he is about the show, he said he's a little wary of the lineup. "I'm gonna have to wear rubber gloves when Anthrax take the stage," he joked.

Frehley will play a 30-minute set with the Ace Frehley Band, which includes guitarist Richie Scarlet, bassist Karl Cochran and drummer Steve Budgie Warner.

"We'll be doing the stuff we were doing prior to the 'Unplugged' thing and the Kiss reunion tour," Frehley said.

Some of the same players who take the stage with him at the benefit will likely head into the studio early next year to help Frehley record his fifth solo record, his first since 1989's Trouble Walkin'.

"I'm in the process of building a multimedia studio on seven and a half acres in upstate New York," Frehley said. "I have three albums worth of material right now in the can, and I plan to record another five or 10 songs once my studio is completed. Then I'm gonna sit down to decide which are the best songs to put out as the next Ace Frehley solo album."

The record has a working title, The Baldest Baby on the Block, and Frehley said he hopes to have it out by spring but added that it's too early to predict the musical tone of the disc. It's also too early to tell if and when the long-rumored last-ever Kiss show will take place.

"If it happens, I don't think it's gonna be 'til the spring," Frehley said. "Maybe Shea Stadium, maybe Giants Stadium. Anything's possible, but I'll be there if it happens."

Frehley sounded equally unenthusiastic about the November 10 release of the self-titled five-disc Kiss box set featuring 91 tracks, 20 of which are previously unreleased (see "Kiss Box Set Includes 20 Previously Unreleased Tracks").

"I had no input into that," he said. "They faxed me a list, and I briefly looked over it. There's a booklet included with a lot of great shots. It will be a good representation of the band, and every Kiss fan is gonna want to go out and buy it."

So, has Frehley been calling Simmons on a weekly basis to get a tally on Kiss Kasket sales (see "Kiss Kick It In Style, Komplete With Kaskets")? Not exactly.

"On a work level, I work with them. On a personal level we don't talk very much," he said.

Gene & Paul As Grand Marshals For  Race

In addition, on Sunday driver Sterling Martin will debut his Kiss-adorned #40 car in the Pennzoil 400, a NASCAR Winston Cup event. Entertainment Weekly  - Gene Simmons & Court TV

In the November 2nd, 2001 issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine, on page 60, there is a cool article about Gene Simmons hosting the upcoming Court TV documentary. The article is in the On The Air: The Latest News From The TV Beat, section. By Lynette Rice. KISS and Tell: What the heck is KISS' Gene Simmons doing hanging out with the suits at Court TV? The aging rocker is shooting a documentary for the cabler called The Secret History of Rock'n' Roll (set to air December 4th), which will expose the ugly underbelly of groups like Guns N' Roses and (gasp!) the beach Boys. Says Simmons: "It's all about how idiotic rock & roll musicians are. We talk about how some of the original godfathers of rock & roll created a corrupt system, which it is. The original guys used to steal songs and put their names on them. It's almost like the Sopranos in the music business. And don't kid yourself. These shady characters are still alive and well." Hmm, and we thought it was about wearing tight lycra and shaking your booty. In any event, can we expect any exposes on KISS? "Not that I'm aware of- but, of course, incriminating yourself is not a good idea," says Simmons. "I have the right to remain silent."

KISS' GENE SIMMONS AUTOBIOGRAPHY hits stores Decemeber 4th

The Autobiography The KISS Army Has Been Waiting For !!!

                                             KISS AND MAKE-UP

GENE SIMMONS

When Gene Simmons enters a room, you can feel it. Without him saying a single word, even without his trademark make-up, you know it's him. You can't help but feel like you're in the presence of a larger than life, rock n' roll legend. Immediately you understand that this is a man responsible for his band not only selling more than eighty million records, but for building a worldwide empire worthy of being on the cover of Fortune and a Fortune 500 company (as KISS was in 1996.)

Simmons has spent the last three decades as the mastermind behind a cultural phenomenon that still baffles most critics. Now, as KISS is wrapping up their global sold out Farewell Tour, Simmons is making what may be the most striking move of his entire career. On December 04, 2001 Crown Publishers will release KISS AND MAKE-UP, Gene Simmons' autobiography.

Fans will be surprised to learn that the ferocious demon, who scared more parents than Marilyn Manson ever dreamed of, was born Chaim Witz in Israel where he was raised by an overprotective but extremely loving mother. In KISS AND MAKE-UP, Simmons reminisces about his youth in Israel, his sudden move to Brooklyn and how comic books, television, music, and girls became the center of his universe at an early age.

Simmons doesn't shy away from the fact that he has slept with more than 4,600 women. He candidly talks about his earliest sexual experiences, as well as his relationships with Cher and Diana Ross, as well as his time spent managing Liza Minnelli.

CLASSIC ROCK and LIFESAVERS ad Photo Shoot

From: Tommy Thayer-KissOnline

Just recently, Gene and Paul did a photo shoot in makeup and costume. English photographer Ross Halfin was hired to shoot the session, which took place at an out-of-the-way Hollywood photo studio. The purpose of the session was twofold. First, was to shoot a cover photo for an upcoming Classic Rock magazine special KISS edition, and second, to get shots for a planned KISS and LIFESAVERS ad campaign.

Classic Rock is one of England’s premier rock publications. The KISS special, for which this cover photo was shot, is scheduled to hit newsstands October 15 in the UK. This special edition will feature over 40 pages of KISS and KISS related articles and photos, including new interviews and photos from the recent shoot. This special KISS edition will be available on newsstands in the US as well.

KISS is planning a new ad campaign with Lifesavers (makes sense). Mums the word on details right now, but we’ll see more about later in the beginning of 2002.

Part of my job is to make sure the preparation, the actual shoot and follow-up, including photo approval is well coordinated and executed properly. Believe it or not, a lot of planning goes into doing a shoot like this. Costumes, boots and makeup kits had to be pulled from the KISS warehouse. And since they haven’t been used since the last KISS show in Australia on April 13, they had to be cleaned, prepped and readied. I booked the studio a week prior and coordinated the day’s schedule, including when and where everybody arrives etc. A photo assistant needed to be hired as well as backdrops, film equipment and arranging for Gene and Paul’s guitars to arrive on time.

Once Paul and Gene turned up for the shoot, they immediately began concentrating on makeup, shooting the shit and telling jokes for the hour and a half it takes them to get ready. The interesting thing about KISS’ photo shoots is that they’re usually very low keyed and low-stress, probably due to the fact that these guys know exactly what they’re doing and that they’ve done it so many times before.

Two days later the finished film is looked at and approved by the band. When Paul likes a particular shot, he identifies it with a "PS" with a thick red sharpie ink marker and Gene does the same with a simple "$." The shots all turned out great and everybody seemed very happy with the results. You can see them all this month in their full color and glory, in the forthcoming KISS Classic Rock special.

KISS set to release boxset in November 20th.

Gene Simmons has stated that Kiss plans to release the long awaited Kiss Boxset on November 20th, Originally planned for release in time for Halloween, the four-CD, 80-song set is due November 13th from Mercury Records. It will feature rarities including music from Wicked Lester, the pre-Kiss band that featured Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss, as well as a live take of "Firehouse" and demo recordings of "Deuce" and "Strutter," all of which were featured in their final versions on Kiss's self-titled debut in 1974. Still-untitled four-disc set due in November. It probably won't be Kiss' last release, since the business-savvy Gene Simmons has already promised to deliver an Alive 4, but an upcoming box set attempts to sum up the band's long, lucrative career.the Boxset still has not been given a title will have 80 tracks, 20 of which are previously unreleased. Among the rarities are early demos of "Deuce" and "Strutter"; demos from recording sessions for Destroyer (1976), Rock and Roll Over (1976), Love Gun (1977) and Unmasked (1980); 1973 concert recordings of "Acrobat" and "Firehouse"; and cuts by Wicked Lester, the group Simmons and Paul Stanley played in before forming Kiss in 1973, the band's publicist said. The remaining 60 tracks will be album tracks, B-Sides, and Outtakes/Demo versions. A booklet will also be included said to be 96 pages, and scan the bands entire career, with band essays and rare never before seen photos. Gene also let it be known that fans can expect a new KISS dvd as well, no details to when it would be released or if it will be the New Jersey KISS pay-per-view show that previously aired as a showtime pay-per-view special.

Spitfire set to release ERIC SINGER reissues

Four Eric Singer related releases are issued on October 9 via the Spitfire Masters Series. Eric plays on on track on "The Hangover", 4 tracks on "Rubber" and on all tracks on "99 Live". These are all reissues. Eric Singer also guests on Gilby's new release "Swag", though it is not clear which tracks. Apparently, according to Gilby's Official Website at http://www.gilbyclarke.com/ Brian Titchy and Brent Fitz also guest.

Ace Out of  KISS? Contract is over .....

Aug. 16 Before Kiss can kiss America goodbye, Ace Frehley is going to need a new contract.
Technically, as of today, Ace is no longer with the group. His contract has expired. Should Gene Simmons
and Paul Stanley decide to do more shows, Ace would have to have a new contract. Though he's been playing
with the band since the 1970s, Frehley works just as a freelancer. The rockers toured Australia in April, and
after the gigs, Frehley's contract ran out. The goodbye tour was expected to be completed this
fall  with a possible night at New York's Shea Stadium. If the concert is booked, Frehley will need a new
contract to join Gene Simmons onstage. Peter Criss left the tour in January for unstated reasons,
according to Sonicnet.com.  Simmons also plans to release a four CD box set in November,
and according to Sonicnet.com the batch will include 20 unreleased tracks. thanks terri bey for update.

Ace Frehley denied access to jam  with Vince Neil in L.A.
Ace Frehley was to join  Vince Neil onstage at the Hollywood House Of Blues.... But security wouldnt allow Ace to take the stage. Vince Neil currently on a solo tour with former Union drummer Brent Fitz and Union bassist James Hunting and long time guitarist Brent Woods who recorded with Vince on the solo cd Carved In Stone, touring while Motley Crue is on Hiatus. The '80s were alive, well and rocking on the Sunset Strip last night, when Vince Neil and support band Tuff thoroughly entertained the House of Blues audience with songs most fans clearly remembered and were thrilled to hear again. Playing the HOB for the first time, Neil and his excellent band--Brent Woods on guitar and the Union rhythm section of Brent Fitz on drums and James Hunting on bass--relied mostly on Mötley Crüe favorites like "Kickstart My Heart," "Red Hot," "Same Ol' Situation," "Girls Girls Girls" (featuring the obligatory dancing babes), "Home Sweet Home," "Looks That Kill," "Dr. Feelgood," and in the encore, "Wildside" and "Livewire." After playing his own "Look in Her Eyes," Neil made a point of assuring the crowd, "Mötley Crüe is not breaking up," though post-show he indicated he would be continuing to tour on his own for some time: U.S. dates are booked through the end of the month, followed by South America on September 4-8 and subsequent trips to Europe and Japan. Tuff, debuting its new lineup at the show (drummer Tod 'T' Burr and guitarist Mike Thomas have joined frontman Stevie Rachelle and bassist Brian Saunders) got the crowd going with songs old ("I hate Kissing You Goodbye") and new ("American Hairband"). The quartet leaves for Wisconsin today for a trio of shows beginning on Thursday in Niagara (see Tour Dates for details). The celebs in the house ranged from erstwhile basketball bad boy Dennis Rodman to lawyer Robert Shapiro (of O.J. Simpson defense fame), who was boogieing on the balcony with the "Girls Girls Girls" dancers, to the usual round of musicians, including three past/present KISS members: Eric Singer, Bruce Kulick, and Ace Frehley, who was going to jam with Neil but never got the chance because a security guard stopped him from going to the stage.

Also there were Bob Kulick, Amir Derakh, Derek Sherinian, Jason Hook, and Ray Luzier of David Lee Roth's band, who won't be playing the HOB any time soon, at least with Dave. Apparently, Roth had four dates planned there, but ultimately decided he didn't want to play L.A.

          Union Vocalist gives update....

From John Corabi :

Hey Gang,

First of all I want to thank you guys for the support all through my career!!! I have become friends with alot of you and I'll NEVER be able to repay you for your kindness!!!( and I mean that!!) Especially through the last few years, with all that I've been through with the Motley stuff and Union and etc...
I spoke to Mike online and mentioned that I HAVE been writing a solo record now the last few months, and I met with a few producers who I would like to work with, and they have all expressed interest in working with me.. I want you to know that the new stuff I've been writing is great,Beatles meet Zep and Lenny Kravitz, if you can dig that!!! I also told Mike that in my downtime with Ratt and my writing, I would like to do something special for you guys by, putting a side solo band together, that would do a tour and play alot of material from my past BUT.. do it all acoustically.. Kind of a storytellers vibe!!! I think it would be alot of fun for me and you as well.. I could do Robin's song, Man in the Moon etc.... I want to include things from every album I've done. The Scream, Motley,Union, and also some of the tribute stuff as well.... I will need a favor from you though. I hope you don't mind, but I would like you guys to start spreading the word, and lets try to get as many people as possible to come and hang with all of us for these things, so I can continue to do it as lng as possible.. I was thinking of maybe doing the acoustic thing after I get home from every tour I do... Solo or otherwise.... I asked Mike to not say anything right away, so don't be mad at him, but I SUCK AT KEEPING SECRETS!!!! Thanx for listening, and again from the bottom of my hard-on thank you
Peace Corabi
Hey Its me again...
I'm such a retard sometimes!!!! I know that last sentence wasn't politically correct but...FUCK IT!!! anyway what I'd like to do as well is record the acoustic shows and make them available for the John Corabi fans only, throughthe internet. I can have Layla do the artwork, and I had a very good friend ( Leann ) take some pictures for the possible cover. What would also be cool is if you guys took some pictures as well, that I could use in the c.d. booklet...sound like fun????
Peace Gang
